Stilleben mit Trinkhorn der Sebastiangilde
Willem Kalf
In the National Gallery is a still life by Willem Kalf. I think he always has a half-peeled lemon in the foreground. The design is of a disordered table with a great red lobster and a drinking horn with an elaborate silver mount. In this case the horn was real and belonged to the Archer’s Guild of Amsterdam. Kalf slightly modified it to suit his design.
